The River Bend Neighborhood
2017 - Saturday May 20 - Sunday May 21

The River Bend Local Historic District went into effect on February 2, 2012, following designation by the Des Moines City Council in January. This is a major achievement by the River Bend Neighborhood Association and will ensure that the Neighborhood’s historic housing stock and commercial buildings are safeguarded for future generations. The Local Historic District consists of the four areas of River Bend that had previously been named National Historic Landmarks. The Association is committed to helping River Bend residents and property owners understand how this designation may impact them, answer questions regarding the certificate of appropriateness approval process, and identify financial incentives for making property improvements. Please see below for helpful resources.

Only three weeks until River Bend's 20th annual home tour. We still have plenty of volunteer opportunities available- helping our artists move their wares into/out of the art house, selling tickets on tour days, or welcoming visitors into one of our homes.
Nothing super hard, but very important roles in supporting another successful tour... plus each shift earns you a free ticket!!

June 11, 2016 - Beaverdale Neighborhood Association 2016 Tour of Homes
The Beaverdale Neighborhood Association will be sponsoring a tour of 6-7 homes in Beaverdale on June 11th, 2016. These neighbors have been gracious enough to open up their homes to showcase the wide variety of homes located in the neighborhood as well as their unique design ideas and remodeling projects. Tickets will be available for purchase at various Beaverdale businesses and possibly online as we approach June 2016. Keep an eye on the Sidewalk and the website for updates and additional information in Spring 2016.

Sherman Hill

Sherman Hill is Des Moines’ oldest neighborhood. From its beginning in the 1870s until today, this neighborhood has maintained a prominent place in the city’s heritage and its architecture has earned distinction as Des Moines’ first local historical district in 1982.
